A nicely toned stater from Kroton

BRUTTIUM. Kroton. Circa 500-480 BC. Stater (Silver, 26 mm, 7.89 g, 12 h). ϘPO Tripod with legs ending in lion's feet; to right, heron. Rev. ϘPO Same type as the obverse, but incuse. HN III 2093 var. (no legend on the reverse). SNG ANS 249. A rare variety. Beautifully toned and very attractive. Struck from the usual slightly worn dies, otherwise, good very fine.

From an old Swiss collection, formed in the mid 20th century, privately acquired from Dr. H. Nussbaum in Zurich.
